Helping busy owners of both working, and pet gundogs keep their companions looking and feeling their best all year round, and providing a stress free experience from start to finish.
My name is Matt, and after 22 years in the Armed Forces I have honed a keen eye for detail. Dogs have always been my passion, particularly gun dogs. My ultimate goal is to give your dogs coat an aesthetically pleasing makeover according to your wishes, leaving them clean and fresh whilst understanding that the welfare of the dog must always come first.

Above all else comes the welfare of your dog, but a close second are your wishes. I will listen to how you would like your dog to look and do my best to make that happen.
The military has taught me to pay close attention to detail in everything I do. You can be sure that I have carried out your dog's groom to the best of my ability.
Many dog groomers will groom as quick as they can...not me. The end result and the comfort of your dog is much more important. I will go at a pace that is comfortable to me and your dog so I may take a little longer than your previous groomers.
Your dog will always be safe, secure, and have my full attention. It is just me and your dog in the salon with no distractions. No passing from one person to another and no locking in a cage at any point.
There are so many different brands of grooming products on the market, some are much better than others. Your dog will only have the best products and return to you smelling and feeling delicious!
If you need any advice in between your dog's grooms, I'm only a message or a phone call away. I like to build a good relationship with my clients so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you ever need help with your dog.
Please reach me at gundoggroombox@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Currently I groom from home in a salon in my garden. My address is 22 Linburn Drive, Bishop Auckland, DL14 0RG. My home is located just off Greenfields Rd, not far from Tindale.
Of course! I will groom anybody's dog if they are willing to travel to me. I have regular clients coming from as far as Durham, Middlesborough, and Kirkby Stephen.
If you have travelled too far to go home while you wait, there are many coffee shops, restaurants and shops just a short dive away at Bishop Auckland Retail Park located in Tindale where you can kill some time until your dog is ready.
No, I have groomed many different breeds from Shih Tzus to German Shepherds but I like to specialise in gundog breeds, particularly Cocker Spaniels.
Unfortunately not. My insurance will not allow me to work with any banned breeds.
Unfortunately I'm not mobile yet but this will be coming soon. I am aiming to be fully mobile by April 2026 which will mean even less stress for you.
I try to make it as easy and stress free as possible. Simply pop me a message via the contact page, or click any "Book Now" button. I'll then arrange a call with you so we can have a quick chat about your dog and their needs, and arrange a suitable time for an appointment.
Yes, I can get fully booked quickly, as do most dog groomers. To avoid disappointment it's important to book early and if possible, I recommend to book your next few grooms in advance to lock in your preferred slots. A 50% deposit is required at time of booking which can roll over to your next appointment.
You should arrive at my home 5 minutes early for your appointment if possible but please do not be late. The side gate will be open and I will be there to meet you in the salon. On your first appointment I will need to take some details from you, then I will check with you what you'd like, give you an approximate cost and pick up time, then I'll crack on with the groom. Once your dog is ready you will receive a text message asking you to pick them up. You will then check your dog over to make sure you are happy, pay the remaining balance, and you are happily on your way.
Every dog is different and will depend on the breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Generally, every 4-8 weeks is recommended for full grooms for most dogs, while some breeds may benefit from a Bath, Brush & Bits in between, or instead of a full groom.
The cost can vary as there is so much to consider. It will depend on the breed, size, coat type and condition, behaviour of the dog, and the time it takes. I try to give a "from" and "to" price when clients ask how much, but this can only be confirmed once the groom is complete. A 50% deposit of the "from" price is required upon booking.
Products can vary from time to time as I like to try new things and see what works well, I ensure only the best quality products are used from reputable brands.
Many dog owners come to me because I offer 1-1 grooming and Reiki which is great for nervous or anxious dogs. As I like to work at your dogs pace to keep it as stress-free as possible, this may take extra time and incur a surcharge.
It is important to socialise your puppy as soon as possible with all of the different experiences that they will encounter in their life. This should be done on a regular basis to ease them in gently and not overwhelm them from a young age. They can start as soon as they are fully vaccinated at 12 weeks.
